Finally finishing for today. Found solace in this, which I took the trouble to track down from the Four Elements film:

of all mortal things no one has birth, or any end in pernicious death, but there is only mixing, and separating of what has been mixed, and to these men give the name ‘birth'.

It's a wonderful notion because it seems to capture Buddhist, Wiccan, and Feri sensibilities in a single quote, when they're so often superficially incompatible. I don't know much about things Hellenistic. Perhaps I should look in that direction?
